Cluj – The Paintbrush Factory – the first non-conventional and experimental Art Gallery in Romania

In the form of an independent Cultural Centre, the Paintbrush Factory is a space for creation and diffusion of contemporary art. The project was initiated by a group of artists, curators, and cultural producers and managers from Cluj, motivated by the idea that art can have an impact on the community.
The Centre is situated in the old Paintbrush factory of Cluj, Romania, and is concentrated on a surface of 2000m², with 29 spaces for contemporary art: artists’ workshops, galleries and cultural organizations actives in the field of visual art, dance and theatre.
The Paintbrush Factory contributes to urban development and valorizes industrial patrimony by activating a space for community life. Thanks to the way in which cultural operators and independent artists have combined their resources, the project can perhaps be considered as a first in the Romanian cultural sector.

Sign the Petition in Support of Realstyle Crew !

Around 4 pm on Sunday 4 October 2009, in the place St. Michel, Paris, the Realstyle Crew performed and animated the area, when a patrol of the Anti- Criminal Brigade arrived, questioned the dancers, and filed a report of a daytime breach of the peace (450 €) for each one of the dancers, and confiscated the computer and the amplifier belonging to the choreographer. The young people did not have a municipal authorization to dance in the public space, but did things really need to go that far ?
A petition has been started. You can sign here and also send it on.

Forum-banquet "Penser ensemble des morceaux de ville"
(Think Together Pieces of the Town)

The Social Centre of the Soubise neighbourhood, the inhabitants, the town of Dunkerque, the Development Agency and the Museums Directorate are working together to present a Forum-banquet on the theme of “Penser ensemble des morceaux de ville” on 7 November 2009 on the Square of the Palais de Justice in Dunkerque, France.
This meeting aims to create a public debate on "the place of the citizen" and to enable meetings between neighbours and actors from the town, in order to activate the desires of the people of the town with the help of several speakers and workshops (How Can the Inhabitants Be Associated in Town Development ? Why and How Can We Work Together ? What Future is There for the Town?...)
Michel Jeannès, artist and Artistic Director of the La Mercerie Co-operative in Lyon, will present his project PPOCC (le plus petit object culturel commun) (the smallest common cultural object).

"Culture, Handicap, Adventure Playgrounds" Meeting

Organized by Résonance Contemporaine and the Theatre of Bourg-en-Bresse, the "Culture, Handicap and Adventure Playgrounds" day will take place at 5.30 pm on Thursday 19 November 2009 at the Theatre of Bourg-en-Bresse, France.
Awareness of the fact that society cannot deny handicapped people their full place in daily life has been written into the law, and also, often before legislation, already taken place through the initiatives of local co-operatives or associations. The reactivity of numerous actors in cultural, artistic, health and social milieux shows that cultural action aimed especially at handicapped people, or those in difficulty, is no longer considered as being in the charity and compassionate register in order to be recognized as a right, even if this right must be reaffirmed permanently.
This meeting would be of interest to professionals of cultural networks, medico-social and handicap structures, local councillors, and anyone interested in the question. Entry is free.

Colloquy on Cultural Mediation – XXIInd Jacques Cartier Interviews

Culture pour tous (Montreal), Espace Pandora (Vénissieux, France) and the Cultural Mediation Association (Lyon, France), got together to develop and organize a Colloquy entitled "What Territories for Actors in Cultural Mediation?", which will take place at the Théâtre des Asphodèles, Lyon, France, on 30 November and 1 December 2009, in the framework of the XXIInd Jacques Cartier Interviews.
Intended for culture professionals, artists and political officials, this Colloquy aims to enlarge the understanding of territories (geographical, political, institutional, cultural and human), already invested in, or delineated by, actors in cultural and artistic mediation through different practices and diverse models. It is in keeping with the continuity of the work already carried out during the last few years by the three partner structures. Exchanges from one country to another helps to throw light on and to nourish visions and respective approaches. Speakers from Québec, France and elsewhere will be invited to present the fruit of their research and their experiences. Decision-makers (local councillors, directors of organizations, etc) practitioners (artists, cultural mediators, project-carriers) and university researchers will also contribute to the sharing of thoughts.

"D'une seule voix" (With One Voice) - Showing in Cinemas on 11 November 2009

The documentary film "D'une seule voix", realized by the director Xavier de Lauzanne , will be shown in cinemas on 11 November 2009.
In December 2004, in spite of a second Intifada still fresh in people's minds, a Frenchman, Jean-Yves Labat de Rossi, succeeded in bringing together musicians from Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza, on one stage in the heart of Jerusalem. Encouraged by his success, the organizer thought about a tour in France with these same artists. Xavier de Lauzanne, who filmed the concert for a cable channel, offered to accompany him in this adventure.
"D'une seule voix" tells the story of the French tour of these musicians, but from the beginning, rivalries inevitably began to appear. On stage, it was a triumph, but backstage, voices were raised...
This promiscuity which they could not escape nevertheless forced them to communicate. The film asks the question of whether a project centred on music can really create links between people opposed by war. Download the press release.
The preview will take place on Tuesday 10 November 2009 at the Comoedia Cinema, 13 avenue Bertholot, Lyon (7th arrondissement), in the presence of the film director Xavier de Lauzanne.

Les Z’humains – Zéotrope Company

After 3 years passed in schools and neighbourhoods in the Villeurbanne area, "Les Z’Humains" will invade the stage of the Théo Argence Cultural Centre, Saint-Priest, France, at 8.30 pm on 20 November 2009, with a new creation, a logical follow-up to work with inhabitants.
“Les Z’Humains” have decided to leave the Earth. They are not made for our society: they have therefore chosen exile. A few of them have been designated to leave before the others with a mission to administrate the space of their new life, to organize daily life, to prepare for the arrival of the others and above all, to invent the rules of a new society. But how can they do it?

Ceci est un Non Evénement (This is a Non-Event)

From 12 October until 1 November 2009, the experimental laboratory Garde Robe is organizing "Ceci est un Non-Evènement", a pluridisciplinary artistic project, at the Centre Wallonie Bruxelles, Paris, France.
Because an artistic form takes on multiple facettes and can receive continued interest, astonish, or be rejected, "Ceci est un Non Evènement" aims to be a subjective occasion for meetings, a test tube of plural expressions, with consensual finality, and without a coded message. To this end, it aims to create a space for conviviality linked to the cultural, social and economic context of everyone in order to multiply times of meetings, attract interrogation, agitate ideas, and to provoke mixing and discussion centred on the different artistic forms presented.
In this sense, the programme is pluri-disciplinary (hip hop dance, contemporary dance, slam, street arts, block party...) and tends to valorize the work of professional companies that work for the creation of new forms of meeting between the public, artists, professionals and amateurs.
"Ceci est un Non Evènement" also tries to highlight the wealth of a project based on solidarity, mutual aid, and co-operation between artists, structures and cultural actors.
The programme includes : the E.Go Company, the Etre'ange Company, the Croc'no Company, a master class, a creation residence, an exhibition, a brass bad, jam...
